So you took the plunge and created your first TPT resource. You clicked that ‘publish’ button and your resource is now out in the world. But now you’re probably wondering… How do I make sales on my TPT product? How will other teachers find my resource when there are millions of other resources already on TPT?
*Say Hello to Marketing & Social Media*
I’ve learned that being a successful seller not only requires making quality resources, but also consistently marketing those resources. As i’ve grown as a TPT seller, marketing has become my favorite part of the business!
I started my Instagram in 2013 when I first started my TPT journey. Instagram has been one of my go-to tools for marketing and networking with other teacherpreneurs. It’s a space where I can share ideas, tips, and my resources out into the world. I’ve also met so many incredible teachers along the way! In today’s post, i’m sharing 3 actionable steps you can start taking today to grow your teacher instagram account.

Attract Your Ideal Audience
First off, let’s establish this: the number of followers you have does not determine your success. In fact, you can have 10,000 followers, but if none of them are your ideal audience… what’s the point?
You want followers that are genuinely interested in your content. Ideally, you want followers that will turn into paying customers down the road.
1. Share Useful & Authentic Content for Teachers
What catches your eye when you come across a new teacher account? What is it about that account that really draws you in? Most of the time, we gravitate towards accounts that share useful information, tips, and ideas to incorporate in the classroom.
Although your main goal with creating an Instagram might be to generate sales and lead people to your TPT store, your Instagram page should be more than just photos of your product covers. Create content that will make people want to click that ‘follow’ button. “Hey, this teacher has some really engaging ideas to spice up my instruction!” Providing consistent, quality content is how you will grow your teacher Instagram.
Teacher Instagram Post Ideas:
A teacher organization hack
A hands-on activity you used during centers
Create a graphic with 3 ideas for teaching division (or any other skill!)
Snapshots of your resource in action (Make sure to blur out any student faces, school logos, student names, etc.)
A behind-the-scenes look of you setting up an activity for your students
A funny meme or video about a teacher struggle
You want to build that ‘know, like, trust’ factor with your audience. If they know they can visit your account for quality content, they’re going to be more likely to want to purchase products from you as well.
2. Use Hashtags to Find Teacher Accounts to Follow

Search for other teacher accounts on Instagram using hashtags in the search bar. Here are some of my favorite hashtags to help me find new accounts:
#teachersfollowteachers #iteachtoo #iteachthird #thirdgradeteacher #teachersofinstagram #teacherideas
Follow and engage with other teacher accounts. Comment on their posts and start making connections. Chances are, they’ll check out your page and see the amazing content you have to offer and will give you a follow back.
By commenting on their posts, you’re putting your name out there for other teachers to see. They’ll click your page, like what they see, and give you a follow as well!
Hashtags are also great to use within your post’s caption. Include hashtags that are relevant to your resource or content. For example, if you’re sharing a photo of a multiplication resource, you’ll want to include hashtags that are relevant to multiplication such as:
#iteachthird #thirdgrademath #mathteacher #mathcenterideas #multiplicationactivity
Make sure your profile is on public so that anyone can find it and see your content!
3. Create an Eye-Catching Teacher Instagram Profile
Your profile is the first thing others will see when they come across your Teacher Instagram. Your profile is the small section at the top of your page which includes your profile picture, name, and a short description.
One way to grow your teacher Instagram is to take advantage of this description space! Include keywords and phrases that will attract your ideal follower.

What to include in your teacher Instagram profile:
Your name
What grade/subject you teach
If you create resources, mention you are a TPT or resource creator
What area you live in
Any other important information relevant to what they can expect to see by following you
A link which will give your followers access to important information and resources
LinkTree is a great FREE tool to do just this! This link takes your followers to a list of neatly organized links. Here, you can share your TPT resources, blog posts, and anything else you want your followers to see.
