Place Value Potions

If youโre practicing place value with your students, Place Value Potions are a helpful way for students to practice. For this activity, students will match place value blocks with the number form or expanded form version.
To play, students will sort through the cards to match the potion (number form or expanded form) with the correct cauldron (place value blocks).
Monster Mash Number Patterns

Understanding patterns is an important way for students to practice those important second grade skip-counting skills. These Monster Mash Patterns have a couple of missing numbers within the sequence that students need to fill in.
Two different versions are available: one with multiple-choice rules and one where students write the pattern rule.
Trick or Treat Subtraction Strategies

Subtracting two-digit numbers is a necessary math skill for second graders. These Subtraction Strategy task cards ask students to use the break-apart strategy to solve the equations.
Want to differentiate this activity? This resource includes two different sets of task cards to make differentiation easy. Choose whether you want your students to break apart single-digit or two-digit numbers when subtracting.
Wicked Word Problems

Word problems can be tricky for your 2nd graders. These word problem clip cards ask students to solve equations by adding or subtracting. Once they solve, students will โclipโ the answer on the task card.
Differentiated task cards are included so that you can choose the set that works best for your students. Set One asks students to clip the number sentence that matches the equation. Set Two asks students to clip the sum or difference of the equation. Either way, students will gain practice with solving word problems using different strategies.
Haunted Equation Expedition

Two-digit subtraction doesnโt have to be too spooky. These Haunted Equation domino cards have students solve subtraction equations by linking up ghosts and gravestones.
Each gravestone features an equation while each ghost features an answer. Students must begin with the โStartโ โdominoโ. They will solve the gravestone equations and find the โdominoโ with the matching difference. Once theyโve used all of the cards and reached the card that says โEndโ theyโre finished!
Choose between two-digit minus one-digit or two-digit minus two-digit subtraction problems.
Ghostly Graphs

Do your students need practice with reading graphs and analyzing data? These graphing task cards feature questions about pumpkins, candy, and more, which adds a fun spin to reading and analyzing graphs. These graphing and data analysis task cards include questions with picture graphs, frequency tables, tally tables, and bar graphs.
Some questions will have students find the error in the graph, some will have students select the graph to match the data, and there are also questions asking students to add & subtract data.
Two task card options are available: one set with multiple-choice answers and one without answer choices.
Spooky Subtraction

Regrouping can be a tricky skill for students to master. Thatโs why providing extra practice is important! These ghost and frankenstein themed Spooky Subtraction cards provide students with opportunities to subtract both two-digit and three-digit numbers with regrouping.
Missing Number Mystery

Can your students solve a mystery? This Missing Number activity will give them a chance! Featuring equation strips with one number missing, students must decide which number goes in the missing spot.
The set of pumpkin-themed cards gives students practice with addition while the cauldron-themed cards give them practice with subtraction.
Creepy Coin Counting

Looking for a counting coins activity? This Creepy Coin Counting activity asks students to find the sum of the coins depicted on the pumpkin task card. Then, students must find a spider web task card with that same amount. If they find the corresponding web task card, they know that their answer is correct.
A fun twist on this game would be hosting a coin โscavenger huntโ. Give half of your students a coins card and the other half of the students a value card. Students must walk around the room to find their matching pair.
Mummy Rounding

Sorting is an effective way for students to think more critically about math facts. This mummy game targets rounding. Students will sort task cards into two paper bags. One bag is labeled โround upโ and the other is labeled โround downโ.
For this activity, students look at the number on the candy task card and decide if the number needs to be rounded up or down. Students drop the card into the correct paper bag and round the number to the nearest ten or hundred.
